love stephen. and i liked peter wehner’s take on bill’s controversial comments: “O’Reilly’s claim is unfair – and O’Reilly should understand why. Here’s an illustration: Assume someone went on The O’Reilly Factor and, based on the child-abuse scandals that tarnished the reputation of the Catholic Church, made the sweeping claim that “Catholics are child molesters.” My guess is that O’Reilly would (rightly) respond, “No. Some priests molested children, and it was a horrific thing. But you can’t indict an entire faith based on the sins of a relatively few number of priests..”

Going on from that illustration: Catholic priests are also in positions of example and influence - they’re meant to set a good example to the rest of the Catholics (at least, that’s my rough interpretation of what they’re there for). Talibans are a fringe and radical faction of the Muslim belief, whose interpretation of the Quran is hardly shared by many other Muslims. So, if you are to make a sweeping statement about a certain demography based on anything, it would be based on the people who are meant to set an example.

I’m not Catholic-bashing, I’m just saying that O’Reilly’s attempts to recover his ass was pathetic.
